SCICONS dsRNA Antibodies

We offer SCICONS mouse anti-dsRNA antibodies, which are the gold standard in double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) detection. The J2, J5, K1 and K2 monoclonal antibody clones are used to detect dsRNA intermediates of a diverse range of viruses, including chikungunya, dengue, hepatitis, rabies, rhinovirus, polio, swine fever and more. The antibodies have been widely applied to study the viral life cycle and anti-viral responses, as well as used as a diagnostic tool to detect whether an unknown pathogen is bacterial or viral. The antibodies are also available packaged in ELISA kits.

The SCICONS antibodies’ high specificity, affinity for a range of synthetic double-stranded polyribonucleotides, and lack of reaction with DNA and single-stranded RNA have been extensively characterized since the antibodies’ development in 1990 (Schönborn et al., 1991).

SCICONS products are widely used for a range of systems and applications, as referenced in more than 300 published studies. For example, review how the SCICONS antibodies helped the fight against SARS-CoV-2 in this article.

The SCICONS antibodies include:

J2 monoclonal antibody, which is the clone most often used to detect dsRNA intermediates of a wide range of viruses in cells and tissues, for applications including IHC, IF, Western blot, ELISA and electron microscopy.
J5 monoclonal antibody, which is comparable in dsRNA affinity and specificity to the J2 clone, but has a different isotype, making it a flexible tool for simultaneous detection of dsRNA with other markers in IF and more.
K1 monoclonal antibody, which recognizes dsRNA with similar affinity to the J2 antibody. It can be used for the histological and cytological detection of dsRNA in cells and tissues as an alternative to J2. This clone is also the best option for detecting poly I:C.
K2 monoclonal antibody, which has an IgM isotype and is typically used in specialized applications where an anti-dsRNA antibody with an isotype other than IgG is required.
